As of Sunday (16\/8), a joint team together with the\nRegional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) was still conducting sweeps\nat a number of affected points to record and confirm the number of\nvictims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo support emergency medical services, one field hospital has been\nestablished and is operating in Reok District, Manggarai Regency,\u201d said\nActing Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication\nCentre, Berton S.P. Panjaitan, in a written statement.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to ensuring health services, the government is working to\nopen transport access to support aid distribution and the evacuation\nprocess. Based on the latest monitoring, the land route connecting\nLarantuka and Maumere is now connected and passable by vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>However, challenges remain on other routes. \u201cThe response team is\nstill trying to find alternative routes because the land road connecting\nEnde to Nagekeo remains cut off due to the earthquake,\u201d Berton\nadded.<\/p>\n<p>The major earthquake had a significant impact on residents. A total\nof 47 people were recorded dead and more than 5,000 people were forced\nto flee due to severe damage to their residential buildings. Based on\nBNPB data as of Sunday (16\/8) at 00.00 WIB, the distribution of\ndisplaced persons includes:<\/p>\n<p>The disaster\u2019s impact was also reported to have been felt as far as\nBima and the Selayar Islands.
