Fewer shooters on Central Java team<\/p>\n
SEMARANG (JP): The Central Java chapter of the Indonesian
\nTarget Shooting and Hunting Association (Perbakin) will reduce
\nthe number of women shooters it will send to the 15th National
\nGames (PON) in Surabaya, in June.<\/p>\n
Coach Sylvia Gani said on Saturday PON organizers had decided
\neach chapter could send a maximum of three shooters to compete in
\neach discipline at the quadrennial event, which will take place
\nfrom June 19 to June 30.<\/p>\n
\"We currently have four air rifle match shooters and five air
\nrifle hunting shooters. We'll only pick the best three of the
\nnine shooters being trained for the quadrennial event,\" she said.<\/p>\n
The air rifle match shooters are Shila Prasasti, Susetya
\nAgustina, Tina Agustin and Wulandari, while the air rifle hunting
\nathletes are Haryati, Nuraini, Retno Wulan, Cicilia Lastikawati
\nand Theodore Dasantari.<\/p>\n
Sylvia said the province was targeting three golds in the
\nevent. But the shooters will face a tough challenge from East
\nJava, West Java and Jakarta, she added.<\/p>\n
Separately, the chairman of the Central Java chapter of the
\nIndonesian Pencak Silat Association, Sujadi, hoped his athletes
\ncould win five golds at PON.<\/p>\n
Central Java will send Indriyatnawati, Florensia, Kasihatun
\nand Ariani to compete in the women's division, and Imam Wibisono,
\nYulisa KP, Haris Nugroho, Roni Saifullah and Sigit Infantoro to
\ncompete in the men's division at PON.<\/p>\n
Sujadi said his athletes' toughest competition would come from
\nJakarta, host East Java and Yogyakarta.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Central Java chapter of the Indonesian
\nAerosport Federation expects three gold medals at PON.<\/p>\n
Aerosport coach Boji Subari said he was training three
\nathletes -- Herry (outdoor hand-launch glider and aerobatic
\ncontrol line), Jono (FIA) and Puji (outdoor hand-launch glider)
\n-- for PON.<\/p>\n
Boji expects stiff opposition from Jakarta and East Java
\nbecause both provinces have modern training facilities. He also
\nsaid the two provinces often staged national championships to
\nallow their athletes to test their skills and technical
\nabilities.<\/p>\n
Paragliding coach Komar Husen said Central Java would send
\nAgus Budiarso and Yetiningsih to compete in the men's and women's
\nevents at PON, respectively.<\/p>\n
Also, the chairman of the Central Java sports council, Djoko
\nSudantoko, expressed hope his athletes could raise their optimism
\nand motivation ahead of PON.<\/p>\n
\"There is only one word: win,\" he said. \"But I hope they won't
\nbe disappointed should they lose. The athletes should start to
\npractice hard and boost their motivation to win. If we lose, we
\nhave to acknowledge that our opponents played better.\" (har)<\/p>",
