Few Malaysian visitors to RI<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia is not a very attractive place to
\nvisit for Malaysians compared to several other countries in the
\nregion, despite the close cultural ties between the nations,
\nchairman of the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents
\n(MATTA) Tunku Iskandar said.<\/p>\n
Malaysians prefer holidaying in Singapore, Thailand,
\nAustralia, or China to Indonesia, he said after signing a joint
\naction agreement with the Association of Indonesian Travel
\nAgencies (Asita) on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Some eight million Malaysians go for holidays abroad each
\nyear, but only 500,000 of them visit Indonesia, Iskandar was
\nquoted by Antara as saying.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, the number of visitors to Malaysia from
\nIndonesia, excluding job seekers, only numbers 200,000 a year, he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
He did not specify the reasons why Malaysians were not very
\nattracted to Indonesia.<\/p>\n
But as far as Indonesian visitors were concerned, one of the
\nreasons why few Indonesians come to Malaysia was because of the
\nhigh fiscal rate the Indonesian government imposed on its
\ncitizens, Iskandar said.<\/p>\n
The Indonesian government imposes a Rp 1 million (US$119)
\nfiscal fee for its citizens as well as expatriates working in the
\ncountry to go abroad. (10)<\/p>",
