FCCI protests raids<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Forum Calling Card Indonesia (FCCI) protested raids on a
\nnumber of phone calling card operators conducted last week by the
\npolice, the city transportation agency and state-owned PT Telkom.<\/p>\n
G. Asmoro Edi, the secretary-general of FCCI, said over the
\nweekend that the three institutions had no reason to conduct
\nraids as all the operators were legal and had licenses.<\/p>\n
Calling cards have a pin number and enable users to make
\ncheaper calls.<\/p>\n
\"We don't understand why they conduct the raids. We're all
\nlegal. Besides having a license from the transportation
\nministry's Directorate General of Post and Telecommunications,
\nall FCCI members have signed deals with PT Telkom in Jakarta,\" he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
According to him, only the Directorate General of Post and
\nTelecommunications, which has an investigative team, has the
\nright to investigate or raid phone calling card operators.<\/p>\n
Among the members of FCCI that were raided were PT Vasindo
\nTelememo, PT Moratel, PT Jasnita and PT Natrindo. During the
\nraids, Natrindo's gateway system worth Rp 300 million was
\nconfiscated, while the other operators were threatened with
\nclosure.<\/p>\n
FCCI, which has 22 members -- 15 in Jakarta and seven in
\nSurabaya -- contribute an income of Rp 24 billion per year to
\npublicly listed PT Telkom. --JP<\/p>",
