Fauzi Bowo summoned over taxi forgery case<\/p>\n

City police said on Thursday they would question on Monday Deputy
\nGovernor Fauzi Bowo as a witness in an alleged signature forgery
\ncase involving taxi company PT Primer Metro Transindo.<\/p>\n
The head of the Jakarta Police's auto theft unit, Comr. Edi
\nTambunan, said police wanted to confirm with Fauzi whether his
\nsignature was forged by the taxi company in order to obtain a
\nlicense for its fleet.<\/p>\n
\"We will ask him whether the signature is his or not. Our
\nlaboratory will also compare his signature with the signature on
\nthe license application. Then we can conclude whether we have a
\ncase. After that we can determine who falsified the signature,\"
\nhe said.<\/p>\n
The case revolves around the alleged forging of Fauzi's
\nsignature on documents needed by PT Primer Metro Transindo to
\nsecure an operation permit.<\/p>\n
The documents were dated Oct. 8, 2003, and were submitted
\nalong with other documents to the City Transportation Agency and
\nthe City Investment Coordinating Board.<\/p>\n
Questions were raised about the document because the city
\nadministration announced in 2001 it would not approve any new
\ntaxi companies in order to ease the competition among the 23,000
\ncabs from over 30 companies already operating in Jakarta, not
\nincluding cabs from towns on the outskirts of the capital.<\/p>\n
Earlier, City Legal Agency head Deded Sukandar said his office
\nhad checked the authenticity of Fauzi's signature with relevant
\nagencies and confirmed that it was forged.<\/p>\n
PT Primer Metro Transindo, which owns 300 Primer taxi cabs,
\nhas denied the signature was forged.<\/p>\n
Edi said police had questioned eight witnesses over the case,
\nincluding several officials at the city administration and
\nemployees of PT Primer Metro Transindo.<\/p>\n
\"I think we have enough witnesses and evidence for the case.
\nWe will soon name suspects and hand over the case file to the
\nprosecutor's office,\" he said.<\/p>",
