        "content": "<p>Father Sandyawan hospitalized<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Ignatius Sandyawan Sumardi, a Catholic priest<br>\nrecently cleared of charges for harboring political fugitives,<br>\nhas been admitted to a hospital for dengue fever, sources close<br>\nto him said yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Sandyawan was admitted to St. Carolus Hospital in Central<br>\nJakarta on Sunday, said Sukaryo, a social worker at the Institut<br>\nSocial Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>The institute is a non-governmental organization headed by the<br>\nJesuit priest dedicated to help the urban poor.<\/p>\n<p>Father Sandyawan, 39, and his brother Benny Sumardi, 45, were<br>\ncharged last year of harboring three activists of the Democratic<br>\nPeople's Party (PRD) wanted for allegedly masterminding the riots<br>\nof July 27, 1996 in Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>The Bekasi District Court acquitted them on considerations<br>\nthat providing shelter to someone in danger was part of a<br>\nreligious leader's humanitarian duty.<\/p>\n<p>Sandyawan is the recipient of the 1996 Yap Thiam Hien human<br>\nrights award, named after a late prominent Indonesian human<br>\nrights activist and lawyer.
