Fatal shooting protested<\/p>\n
JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: The city was tense on Wednesday as
\napproximately 50 people held a sit-in strike in front of the
\nprovincial council office to protest Monday's fatal shooting of a
\nGenyem resident at Gresi district here.<\/p>\n
Arriving in a public Damri bus, the protesters reached Jl. Sam
\nRatulangie at 12:25 p.m.<\/p>\n
Blocked by riot personnel, the protesters demanded local
\nauthorities, particularly the military, immediately clarify the
\ncircumstances of the fatal shooting of Robby Yaung.<\/p>\n
The tense standoff forced many nearby shop traders to close
\ntheir businesses.<\/p>\n
The troops were also dispatched to safeguard other shops,
\nshopping centers and banks near the site.<\/p>\n
Yaung's body, which had gun shot wounds, was found on Monday
\nat 7 p.m. on a small deserted street in Sabron Samon village.<\/p>\n
The other victim, Jan Piet Taime, was still in critical
\ncondition at the military Marthen Indey Hospital in Jayapura,
\nAntara reported.<\/p>",
