Fashion Week to showcase top local designers<\/p>\n

The fourth Bali Fashion Week from Oct. 13 through Oct. 15 will
\nagain feature creations by the country's most prominent fashion
\ndesigners.<\/p>\n
The annual fashion extravaganza, which was first staged in
\n2000, is expected to bring together hundreds of local designers
\nand textile and garment producers. Organizers hope the event will
\nattract buyers from all over the world.<\/p>\n
The event's initiator, Bali-based designer Mardiana Ika, told
\nThe Jakarta Post on Wednesday before leaving for Paris that she
\nhad finally gained the trust of designers, producers, buyers and,
\nmore importantly, the Indonesian government.<\/p>\n
\"I am very happy and enthusiastic that after four years of
\nhard work, every party involved in previous Bali Fashion Weeks
\nwill benefit from this event,\" Ika said.<\/p>\n
During last year's event, about 300 buyers from Asian
\ncountries such as Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, Korea as well as from
\nAustralia, the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Africa
\nclosed deals.<\/p>\n
\"The Bali Fashion Week 2002 proceeded with flying colors and
\nexhibitors and buyers were satisfied with the many orders
\nplaced,\" Ika said.<\/p>\n
The Bali Fashion Week has been firmly established as the only
\nfashion show to be covered by prestigious fashion media including
\nFashion TV and numerous glossy fashion magazines.<\/p>\n
\"I am leaving for Paris to promote Bali Fashion Weeks to
\nforeign media and prospective buyers in France and neighboring
\ncountries,\" Ika said.<\/p>\n
Exhibitors from all over Indonesia will present their
\nSpring\/Summer 2004 fashion items including garments, textiles
\n(mostly traditional, such as batik, ikat and sarongs). They will
\nalso present other fashion-related merchandise such as silver and
\ngold jewelry, leather products such as shoes and handbags.<\/p>\n
Since the government is lending a hand to help the organizer,
\nIka said the event was more secure than in previous years.<\/p>\n
\"When I met Minister of Trade and Industry Rini Soewandi, she
\nsaid the event had the potential to attract the international
\nbusiness community to Bali and other places in Indonesia,\" Ika
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Currently, the Bali Fashion Week is fully supported by the
\nMinistry of Industry and Trade, the National Agency for Export
\nDevelopment, textiles and garments associations and the designers
\nassociation.<\/p>\n
It is also supported by the hotel and restaurant industry in
\nBali and other cities in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Keke Hidayat, public relations director for the Bali
\nIntercontinental Hotel, said the Bali Fashion Week deserved
\nstrong support.<\/p>\n
\"We are providing a venue for the three-day event,\" Keke said.<\/p>\n
Ika said she hoped the Bali Fashion Week would help the
\ninternational community realize that Bali is still doing very
\nwell in terms of business and leisure.<\/p>",
