Bandung \u2013 Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan has opened the option of\noffering the development of the Jelekong Final Waste Disposal Site (TPA)\nin Bandung Regency to investors to accelerate infrastructure development\nand integrated waste management across the Greater Bandung region.<\/p>\n
Farhan stated that the land at the former Jelekong TPA is available,\nbut road access to the location still needs to be developed to ensure\nthe project can run optimally.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe land is there, it\u2019s just the access that needs to be pursued. It\nmust be pursued. If permitted, I will gather a few colleagues for\ndiscussion to find business actors who can help us invest here,\u201d said\nFarhan in Bandung on Saturday.<\/p>\n
According to him, the financing scheme for developing the TPA is\nactually already available through certain funding concepts. However,\nrealisation must be accompanied by basic infrastructure development in\nparallel, particularly road access to the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we jointly build road access into here, Bandung City and Bandung\nRegency will definitely both benefit. The benefits are clearly there,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>\n
Farhan revealed that Bandung City produces approximately 1,500 tonnes\nof waste per day, whilst Bandung Regency produces around 1,800 tonnes\nper day.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis means that these two regions alone are already producing nearly\n3,300 tonnes of waste every day, with approximately 80 per cent still\nbeing managed using open dumping systems,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq stated that\ndeveloping road access falls under the authority of the Public Works\nMinistry according to applicable mechanisms.<\/p>\n
He added that local governments need to prepare technical designs and\nland acquisition, whilst the physical construction of the road can be\nrealised after administrative procedures are completed.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf road access is assigned to the Public Works Minister to encourage\nits development, what is needed is the design and land acquisition.
