        "content": "<p>Families spend holiday trapped in floods<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): At least 167 families in Pondok Pinang and<br>\ndozens of others in Bintaro, South Jakarta, were trapped in water<br>\nall Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p>Heavy rains hit several other city areas causing traffic jams.<\/p>\n<p>A city flood control official, Broto, said yesterday it began<br>\nraining 5 p.m. Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>He said the families refused food and other donations from<br>\nsocial services.<\/p>\n<p>\"But families in the Foreign Affairs Ministry housing complex<br>\nin Bintaro asked only for a life boat,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>The other families were in the Civil Servant Cooperatives<br>\nAssociation housing complex which is flood prone.<\/p>\n<p>A few families have their own boats and said it was hard to<br>\nsell their homes because of the flooding.<\/p>\n<p>The complex lies near to the Pesanggrahan river.<\/p>\n<p>Broto said rain inundated the houses at 11:30 p.m. and reached<br>\nbetween 50 to 120 centimeters.<\/p>\n<p>The water, which reached between 100 cm and 120 cm in nine<br>\nneighborhood units in Pondok Pinangict, started to ease at 4:30<br>\na.m, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday's downpour caused heavy congestion on Jl. Gunung<br>\nSahari and the Ancol toll road in North Jakarta, Jl. Tanah Abang<br>\nin Central Jakarta, and the artery road in Pondok Pinang near<br>\nPermata Hijau in South Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Drivers were trapped in bumper-to-bumper traffic on several<br>\nother roads.<\/p>\n<p>\"It took up to four hours to reach the Ancol area from Cawang<br>\ntoll road,\" one driver said.<\/p>\n<p>A container overturned on the Ancol toll road, worsening the<br>\ncongestion.
