False flood reports filed<\/p>\n

Dozens of companies in the Periuk district of Tangerang have
\nfiled false reports on the recent flooding, claiming that their
\noperations were severely affected in order to get tax
\ncompensation from the government, authorities said.<\/p>\n
An official of the Tangerang municipality's Trade and Industry
\nAgency, speaking on the condition of anonymity, made the
\nstatement over the weekend when asked about the impact of the
\nfloods in Tangerang's six districts.<\/p>\n
\"I think those reports are tricks to acquire tax
\ncompensation,\" the official told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n
The official said that, altogether, 31 factories in the Periuk
\ndistrict and five others in Cibodas district near the Sabi river
\nhad reported that they were affected by the floods.<\/p>\n
However, the official said that he suspected a large number of
\nthese were false claims.<\/p>\n
Agency chief Rina Hernaningsih said that more than 100
\nfactories across Tangerang had been inundated by flood water.<\/p>\n
She said that her agency would conduct a survey to find out
\nthe true condition of those companies on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
\"We'll come to the companies to find out whether their reports
\nare true or not,\" she said.<\/p>\n
When the Post contacted the factories for comment last week,
\nnone of those companies' staff said that floodwaters had
\ninundated their factories and caused production to stop.<\/p>\n
Companies severely hurt by the floods include PT Cipta
\nLestari, PT Tungggal Maju Asri, PT Alam Kaca, PT Diamindo Megah,
\nPT Cipta Teras Adi, and PT Sinar Laut.<\/p>\n
\"Flood waters inundated this factory last Friday, so 200
\nworkers were allowed to leave early,\" said Linda, an
\nadministrator at PT Cipta Lestary, told the Post, adding that
\ntotal losses of the company had yet to be calculated.<\/p>\n
Separately, Tuti, an administrator at PT Diamindo Megah, said
\nthat the floodwaters that reached the 60 centimeter level had
\nsubmerged her company's factory from Wednesday until Friday.<\/p>\n
\"We cannot resume production, since machines were damaged.
\nAbout 200 workers were asked to stay home for a while; the total
\nlosses caused have yet to be calculated,\" she said.<\/p>\n
Administration staff of PT Tunggal Maju Asri and PT Cipta
\nTeras Adi also said that those company factories were hit by
\nfloods, causing workers to stay home. But he said that the
\ncompany's total losses were still unclear.<\/p>\n
PT Sinar Laut director Husin told the Post that floodwaters
\ndid not fill his main factory, but noted that the factory's
\nassembly plant in the Total Persada area was completely
\ndestroyed.<\/p>\n
\"The floodwaters came at 11 p.m., so we couldn't save
\nanything,\" he said. \"We also have to negotiate with the workers,
\nwho had to stay home for a week.\"<\/p>",
