False alarm jangles nerves at police HQ<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Fear gripped officers at the National Police
\nHeadquarters on Tuesday when a suspected bomb was found in the
\nWisma Bhayangkari Meeting Hall, located next to the National
\nPolice Information Center on Jl. Senjaya in South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The National Police bomb squad arrived at the scene at about 9
\na.m. and searched the meeting hall, where a black bag believed to
\ncontain a bomb had been found.<\/p>\n
The bomb squad chief at the scene, Adj. Sr. Comr. Bambang
\nRamelan, said his officers had possibly found a timer and
\ndetonator in the bag.<\/p>\n
However, National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Didi Widayadi
\nannounced at 2 p.m. that the bag did not contain a bomb.<\/p>\n
"Only some batteries, wiring and condenser were found in the
\nbag. Nothing else. Someone doing work in the meeting hall must
\nhave left the bag," Didi said.<\/p>\n
There was another bomb scare on Tuesday on Jl. Panti Asuhan in
\nEast Jakarta.<\/p>\n
A neighborhood boy found a package that was believed to
\ncontain a bomb. The bag was blown up by the National Police bomb
\nsquad and the remains taken back to their headquarters for
\nexamination.<\/p>\n
"It turned out to be a loud speaker, placed in a shoe box and
\ncovered in yellow wrapping paper," East Jakarta Police chief of
\ndetectives Comr. Agus Irianto said.<\/p>\n
Over 70 people were injured on Sunday in bomb blasts at the
\nSanta Anna Catholic Church and the Huriah Kristen Batak
\nProtestant Church, both in East Jakarta.<\/p>\n
A 26-year-old woman, Lita Sugiharto, received severe injuries
\nto her stomach and hands on Monday when she opened a package that
\ncontained a bomb.<\/p>\n
The package had been delivered to her aunt's home on Jl.
\nSemarang in Menteng, Central Jakarta, where Lita had been staying
\nfor the past six months.<\/p>\n
The Central Jakarta Police believe they have identified the
\nperson who sent the package to Lita.<\/p>\n
Central Jakarta Police chief of detectives Comr. Angesta Yoyol
\nRomano said the package had been delivered to the home of Lita's
\naunt, Ninik Sugiharto, by PT Dakota Jaya Cargo, whose office is
\nlocated on Jl. Pahlawan Revolusi in East Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Yoyol contacted the cargo company and found they had received
\nthe package on July 20 from an expedition firm, PT Brantang
\nDinaga Raya, located on Jl. Brantang in East Surabaya, East Java.<\/p>\n
The package was addressed to the boardinghouse Lita had been
\nstaying at on Jl. Ngagel Taman in Surabaya. After obtaining
\nLita's forwarding address, Brantang Dinaga sent the package to
\nLita through Dakota Jaya.<\/p>\n
Police sources said the police were searching for the man who
\nprovided Brantang Dinaga with Lita's forwarding address. The
\nsources said police were also looking for a man named Dwi
\nYulianto, who reportedly had had a relationship with Lita in
