Fake journalists<\/p>\n

It makes one feel sad, and it is disconcerting that some
\njournalists, especially those craving money (or known locally as
\n\"money-envelope reporters\") downgrade the credibility of
\njournalists in general.<\/p>\n
As an actual example, I can refer to my own experience as the
\ncommittee chairman of a seminar on July 28, at Cafe Zanzibar,
\nBlok M, held by the students of Sekolah Tinggi Hukum Indonesia
\n(Indonesian College of Law) having the theme: \"Law in the
\nperspective of culture and human rights\", where I was the victim
\nof these money-extorting journalists.<\/p>\n
In the middle of the program, a journalist claiming to
\nrepresent the Sinar Pagi Baru daily, made a request for money
\nwhile giving various reasons. Due to the busy schedule and hectic
\npace of the event, I finally acquiesced to this.<\/p>\n
To the others, who kept on chasing me, I retorted, \"Aren't you
\nsupposed to work as truly professional journalists? What you are
\ndoing will certainly damage the reputation of the rest!\"<\/p>\n
I recall another so-called journalist from one of the
\nnewspapers in Maluku (however he refused to reveal its name), who
\neven enticed me with guaranteed publication of the news on the
\nseminar at a certain rate. Upon my refusal, with an angry stare
\nhe retorted, \"I am not a brand-new journalist, you know. I've
\nbeen a senior journalist for over eleven years. Now how can you
\nhave the heart to reject my request?\"<\/p>\n
To anyone who has ever been intimidated by these \"refined
\nrobbers\", who always claim to guarantee media coverage, I advise
\nthe following: they should immediately be reported to the
\nNational Press Council, so that they can no longer operate and
\nwill be ousted from an otherwise respectable community.<\/p>\n
