Jakarta \u2014 Minister of Culture Fadli Zon has proposed a series of\nbilateral cultural programmes that can be established between Indonesia\nand Uruguay, as the two nations\u2019 diplomatic relations enter their 60th\nyear.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe very warmly welcome bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and\nUruguay, particularly in the field of culture. As a follow-up, we can\nlaunch a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for various important\ncooperations. As we know, both Indonesia and Uruguay are culturally rich\nnations, and this is the right time to strengthen bilateral cooperation\nbetween the two countries,\u201d stated the Minister of Culture in remarks\nreceived in Jakarta on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Fadli proposed a series of programmes designed to showcase the\nculture of each nation, including art exhibitions, museum development,\nand artist exchanges between Indonesian and Uruguayan cultural\npractitioners.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe strongly support cultural activists in participating in\ninternational residencies, including between Uruguayan and Indonesian\nartists. Residencies are an excellent programme to undertake, as they\nserve as a platform to showcase the cultural expression of each nation.\nWe have already developed several programme proposals, and perhaps in\nthe future Indonesia and Uruguay can further develop their respective\nideas,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Minister of Culture also requested Uruguay\u2019s support for\nIndonesia\u2019s candidacy as a Member of the UNESCO Intergovernmental\nCommittee for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) for\nthe upcoming term, with elections scheduled for June 2026.<\/p>\n
Uruguay\u2019s Ambassador Cristina Gonzalez expressed hope for continued\ncultural diplomacy with Indonesia.<\/p>\n
\u201cStrategic dialogue between Uruguay and Indonesia is important as a\nmeans of strengthening bilateral relations through the advancement of\nculture in both nations. We are delighted to continue synergies across\nvarious sectors and build people-to-people contact between Uruguay and\nIndonesia,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
