Factory security guard kills one employee, injures three others<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): An employee of an East Jakarta chemical factory
\nwas killed and three others were injured yesterday when one of
\nthe factory's security guards went berserk while investigating
\nthe loss of factory property.<\/p>\n
\"The guard is still at large,\" said Lt. Col. Latief Rabar,
\nspokesman for the city police, yesterday.<\/p>\n
The gruesome incident took place at \"PT Surya Makmur\" factory
\nin Tipar, Cakung district.<\/p>\n
According to witnesses, an employee of factory reported Friday
\nthat the documentation and inspection papers of one of the
\nfactory's trucks had disappeared. The management then conducted
\nan investigation into the matter but failed to identify the
\nperson who was responsible for the loss.<\/p>\n
Latief said that Daryono, chief of the factory's storehouse,
\nsummoned eight drivers of the factory into a room, yesterday.
\nWhen all of the drivers were assembled, Daryono used physical
\nintimidation to try and ascertain which of the men were
\nresponsible for the loss.<\/p>\n
However, none of them admitted to losing the documents.<\/p>\n
Daryono then summoned Kasmari who worked there as a `special'
\nsecurity guard and told him to interrogate the drivers.<\/p>\n
\"Kasmari is not a satpam but a special employee recruited by
\nthe factory from an unknown source,\" said Latief, in an veiled
\nreference to employment of military officers as `special'
\nsecurity guards by some companies.<\/p>\n
In order to beef up their security system in tackling serious
\ncrime, some companies in the greater Jakarta area reportedly
\nemploy military officers as `special' guards.<\/p>\n
Kasmari then staged a kangaroo court, interrogating the
\ndrivers one by one under the point of his bayonet.<\/p>\n
It was reported that the interrogation ultimately led to some
\nsort of physical confrontation, where Kasmari seriously injured
\nfour of the drivers with his bayonet.<\/p>\n
One of the wounded men, identified as Husein, 30, died on the
\nway to the nearby Tugu hospital.<\/p>\n
Kasmari fled after the incident. Police have questioned six
\npersons in their investigation, including Daryono. (jsk)<\/p>",
