Factories production halts during flood<\/p>\n
TANGERANG: More than 100 factories in Tangerang were forced to
\nstop production due to the floods which hit the area last week.<\/p>\n
\"We have reports from 117 flooded factories which have
\nsuffered many losses ... those factories had to temporarily stop
\nproduction,\" Rina Hernaningsih, a Tangerang municipal trade and
\nindustry agency official said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
She predicted that the figure would likely increase, since
\nmany factories in some districts have yet to report their losses.<\/p>\n
\"For now, workers and staff are busy cleaning up the mud and
\ngarbage from the floodwaters,\" said Linda, an employee at glass
\nmanufacturer PT Cipta Lestari, in Periuk district.<\/p>\n
She said that the floodwaters, which began to cover the
\nfactory last Friday, have already reached the one-meter mark,
\nforcing the company to give workers the day off until Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Employees at textile factory PT Diamindo Megah in Cibodas
\ndistrict, Tuti, said that their company's management has yet to
\ncalculate its losses.<\/p>\n
The flood, which began last Wednesday, had broken down the
\nmachines at the factory by the time it reached 75-centimeters
\nhigh.<\/p>\n
Two hundred employees were able to return to work by
\nWednesday, but were still cleaning up. -- JP<\/p>",
