Factions oppose no confidence vote<\/p>\n
MANADO, North Sulawesi: Three factions at the provincial
\ncouncil have rejected the proposal of the Indonesian Democratic
\nParty of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) faction to go ahead with the
\nvote of no confidence against council speaker Syahrial Damopolii,
\nfollowing his statement on freeing North Sulawesi.<\/p>\n
Speaking to The Jakarta Post on Tuesday, officials from three
\nfactions -- the United Development Party (PPP) faction, the
\nIndonesian Military (TNI)\/Police faction and the Golkar Party
\nfaction -- stated that there is no urgency to implement the idea.<\/p>\n
\"In an era of democracy, I think people should express their
\nown opinions,\" secretary of PPP faction Syacrul Poli said, adding
\nthat it was not Damopolii's personal statement.<\/p>\n
Councillor Setiadi from TNI\/Police faction echoed Poli saying
\nthat such action wasn't necessary and the council should instead
\ninternally clarify the statement with Damopolii in order to
\nsettle the dispute.<\/p>\n
Secretary of the Golkar Party faction Victor Maliangkay said
\nthat Damopolii's statement was just an opinion and was in fact
\nsimilar to speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly Amien
\nRais' ideas on a federal state.<\/p>\n
\"This is not something to be repeatedly discussed over and
\nover again. It cannot be used to topple anyone,\" Victor said.<\/p>\n
However, PDI Perjuangan faction chairman Djenry Keintjem said
\nthat he would continue with efforts to replace Damopolii. (48)<\/p>",
