Fabio Capello advises Persib to change<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Fabio Capello, the head coach of soccer giant AC
\nMilan, advised Persib Bandung to make radical changes if the
\nlocal team wants to raise its game to a higher level.<\/p>\n
Despite the absence of superstars such as Dutchmen Ruud Gullit
\nand Marco van Basten AC Milan carried too much skill and speed
\nfor Persib Bandung which went down with a whimper 0-8 at the
\nSenayan stadium on Saturday.<\/p>\n
\"Although I only observed briefly, it is clear that Persib has
\na lot of homework to do if it wants to become a better team,\"
\nCapello said through an interpreter at a press-conference after
\nthe game.<\/p>\n
\"Most probably, every thing from the players' physical
\nfitness, skills and team management must be changed,\" he said.<\/p>\n
\"It took us a lot of sacrifices to reach this level,\" he
\nadded.<\/p>\n
The coach, however, praised Persib's midfielder Yudi Guntara,
\nwho wears no. 5, describing him as a \"promising and talented
\nplayer.\"<\/p>\n
\"I notice that he tried hard and put up a good fight, \" he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
AC Milan, often dubbed the \"Dream Team\", has won the European
\nChampions title five-times and is considered the world's best
\nprofessional soccer club to date.<\/p>\n
Persib Bandung, the three time victor of the inter-city
\nchampionship in Indonesia, had no illusions going into the match,
\nhoping for nothing more than good experience from meeting the
\nstar-studded European team.<\/p>\n
\"We will be there to learn,\" said Ateng Wahyudi, the team's
\ncoach, before the match.<\/p>\n
Throughout the friendly match Saturday, the soccer Goliaths
\nplayed aggressively and beautifully, drawing constant admiring
\n\"ooohs\" and \"aaaahs\" from the spectators.<\/p>\n
Without any doubt, AC Milan lived up to its promise before the
\nmatch that it would play seriously and show its class.<\/p>\n
Capello was also active yelling orders to his charges from the
\nside of the field for most of the game.<\/p>\n
In comparison, Persib's officials remained stoically seated
\nduring the entire course of the annihilation.<\/p>\n
\"My boys played well despite the humidity and they scored
\neight spectacular goals,\" Capello said.<\/p>\n
The coach, however, brushed aside any accusations that AC
\nMilan was being unnecessarily ruthless to the extent that two of
\nhis players were flashed the yellow card.<\/p>\n
\"We always play aggressively and the card was given for two
\nmild mistakes such as kicking the ball out of the field
\nunnecessarily and pulling the opposition's shirt,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He added that Persib was totally demoralized after its shaky
\ndefense was mercilessly penetrated eight times.<\/p>\n
\"It's hard for any team,\" he added.<\/p>\n
Capello also expressed his satisfaction that his squad could
\nmaintain its spunk until the second-half of the game despite his
\ninitial concern.<\/p>\n
\"We have proved that, unlike Sampdoria, we can overcome all
\nweather conditions,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Sampdoria, another top Italian club, played in Indonesia last
\nmonth to beat Indonesia's Liga Selection 3-2.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Agum Gumelar, the chairman of the organizing
\ncommittee - who is also the commander of Kopassus, the Army's
\nelite unit - was satisfied that the match went smoothly without
\nany untoward incidents.<\/p>\n
\"Unlike the Sampdoria event, we did not see any bottle-
\nthrowing activities,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The chain-smoking one-star general said that about 1,500
\nmilitary and police personnel were deployed to maintain order.<\/p>\n
\"It's better to leave some space at the stadium than welcoming
