        "content": "<p>'Extremists' arrested<\/p>\n<p>BANJARNEGARA, Central Java: Police have arrested seven people<br>\naccused of trying to turn Indonesia into an Islamic state.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy chief of the Banjarnegara Police precinct Maj. Giran<br>\nAbdul Djalil said the men were members of the Indonesian Islamic<br>\nState (NII) extremist group.<\/p>\n<p>Hailing from Yogyakarta, Purwokerto and Kebumen, they were<br>\ntargeting uneducated villagers for their political propaganda, he<br>\nsaid. The group had spent about five months getting villagers to<br>\nsupport their campaign, before they were arrested.<\/p>\n<p>He said most of the suspects claimed to be students of various<br>\nstate universities in Java. They posed as clothes hawkers to<br>\nelude the authorities and disguise their activity.<\/p>\n<p>\"They considered Indonesia 'dead' and believed it had to be<br>\nrevived as an Islamic state,\" he was quoted by Antara as saying.<br>\n(pan)<\/p>",
