Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds hit Karangasem Regency on
Tuesday (24/2/2026). The extreme weather triggered at least 19 disaster
events in several areas.

The Head of the Karangasem Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Ida
Bagus Ketut Arimbawa, said that the disasters occurred in several
sub-districts, such as Manggis, Bebandem, Karangasem, and other areas.
So far, there have been no reports of fatalities or injuries.

“To date, there have been about 19 disasters in Karangasem. Most of
them are fallen trees,” said Arimbawa on Tuesday (24/2/2026).

Of the total incidents, 13 were cases of fallen trees. These trees
hit roads, residents’ homes, and even community shrines, causing
significant damage. In addition, there was one report of a landslide,
while the rest were cases of damaged embankments.

“There is also a new report that the roofs of residents’ houses were
damaged due to strong winds,” said Arimbawa.

Arimbawa explained that some of the reports have been handled by BPBD
officers together with related parties, including staff in each
sub-district. Meanwhile, the incidents that have not yet been handled
are still in the process of being addressed.

“We prioritise handling incidents that affect or damage public
facilities first, depending on their urgency. We will ensure that
everything is handled,” said Arimbawa.

The Karangasem BPBD has appealed to the public to remain vigilant
when carrying out activities, both indoors and outdoors. This is because
heavy rain accompanied by strong winds is still hitting the Karangasem
area.

(dpw/dpw)
",
