Extra toll for airport trips starting today<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Vehicles traveling to and from the Soekarno-
\nHatta International Airport will be charged an additional toll
\nfee as of today.<\/p>\n
Owners of sedans, jeeps, pick-up trucks and other Class I
\nvehicles must pay Rp 4,000 (US$1.6) at the new toll gate in
\nKapuk, North Jakarta, including the Cengkareng toll fee, for
\nthose entering the Jembatan Tiga 1 gate. Fees thus total Rp
\n7,000, including the charges of the urban toll fees. Fees for
\nother vehicles are higher, in line with yesterday's presidential
\ndecree on new tolls.<\/p>\n
Vehicles from Jl. Daan Mogot and Kamal passing the Cengkareng
\njunction only pay at the Cengkareng gate.<\/p>\n
Bambang Sundjojo, the operational director of the state-owned
\nPT Jasa Marga toll firm, said yesterday that the extra fees are
\ndue to the opening of the new toll road.<\/p>\n
The road -- linking East Ancol, Jembatan Tiga, Pluit and
\nGrogol -- was inaugurated by President Soeharto earlier in the
\nday.<\/p>\n
Bambang also provided additional information on traffic
\nchanges, especially in Pluit, North Jakarta. The changes, which
\nbecame effective yesterday, are temporary until all toll road
\nramps are completed.<\/p>\n
He said a three-day lenience period will be effective until
\nSaturday for drivers confused with the U-turn at the new Pluit
\ngate.<\/p>\n
Those drivers will be given written notices at toll gates,
\nexempting them from extra charges, Bambang said.<\/p>\n
In response to suggestions that the period should be one week,
\nhe said this would be too long.<\/p>\n
The U-turn is for motorists traveling in the direction of
\nTomang or Tanjung Priok. The road involving the U-turn is for
\ntraffic heading for the airport.<\/p>\n
Bambang promised that Jasa Marga officials will help direct
\ntraffic and new signs will be installed.<\/p>\n
He also explained easier routes to and from the airport, as
\nthe inner urban toll system is now completed with yesterday's
\ninauguration.<\/p>\n
For instance, traffic from the Jagorawi and Jakarta-Cikampek
\ntolls are recommended to pass the Cawang - Tanjung Priok toll,
\nand straight to Jl. Prof. Sedyatmo through the harbor road.<\/p>\n
From West Jakarta areas in Tomang, Kebon Jeruk, and Grogol,
\nvehicles should head for the Grogol crossroads towards the
\nJelambar toll gate on Jl. Satria.<\/p>\n
Vehicles from Tangerang can pass Jl. Daan Mogot and head north
\nat the Cengkareng crossroads through Kamal. This leads to Jl.
\nProf. Dr. Sedyatmo and the airport.<\/p>\n
Those from Meruya and Kembangan in West Jakarta can pass Jl.
\nKosambi and drive north through the west arc. The road to the
\nairport passes the Cengkareng crossroads, Kamal and the
\nCengkareng junction on to Jl. Prof. Dr. Sedyatmo. (anr)<\/p>",
