Extra buses ready for holidayers<\/p>\n
PURWOKERTO, Central Java (JP): Minister of Transportation
\nHaryanto Dhanutirto said here yesterday the government had
\nprepared 1,000 extra buses and trains for the anticipated 12
\npercent rise in the number of Idul Fitri travelers in Central
\nJava this year.<\/p>\n
He said the extra buses and trains were arranged for
\nYogyakarta, Semarang and Purworkerto.<\/p>\n
The minister called on people to buy train tickets at official
\nwindows and not from scalpers who manipulated prices.<\/p>\n
Haryanto was inspecting ticketing services at the railway
\nstation yesterday and met a passenger who bought a Rp 20,000
\ntrain ticket for Rp 27,000.<\/p>\n
\"This is an old problem which should have not have occurred
\nagain,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He said scalpers always seemed to find ways to operate despite
\nrailway company preventative measures.<\/p>\n
Central Java's railway operation office chief Singgih Abadi
\ndenied officials in his office had colluded with scalpers and
\nsaid if they were they would be punished.<\/p>\n
Scalpers often control the sale of plane, train and ship
\ntickets during holiday periods when demand for transport exceeds
\nsupply.<\/p>\n
After the inspection Haryanto said traffic had been smooth at
\nthe sea crossings between Merak, West Java and Sumatra and
\nGilimanuk, Bali and East Java.<\/p>\n
He said the government had anticipated the sharp increase in
\npassenger traffic and prepared extra ferries including Navy
