BSN is enhancing export standard mapping to help Indonesian MSMEs meet international market requirements, partnering with global certification bodies to streamline compliance. Despite 5,940 product types in Indonesia, only 18.5% meet national standards, with 204 successfully entering export markets, though further country-specific adjustments remain necessary for broader global access.

Bandung (ANTARA) - The National Standardization Agency (BSN) is
strengthening export standard mapping based on target countries’
requirements to help Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) more
easily enter global markets.

BSN Accreditation Deputy Wahyu Purbowasito said the initial step is
identifying export destination countries before determining the
standards businesses must meet.

“If we look at overseas, we analyse what standards they require. We
identify the target export destinations and then analyse,” he said.

He explained that BSN assesses technical requirements needed for
products to be accepted in those markets once the destination country is
set.

“Once we know the export destination, we analyse what requirements
and standards are needed,” he added.

Purbowasito added that based on this mapping, BSN designs adjustments
to enable businesses to meet export market standards.

“We’ll design them to meet those requirements,” he said.

He noted BSN also partners with certification bodies with
international networks to expedite standard compliance and certification
issuance for businesses aiming to export.

“After that, we collaborate with certification agencies with overseas
branches to ensure compliance so certificates can be issued for export,”
he said.

According to him, this approach is part of BSN’s efforts to expand
MSME market access through more adaptive standards aligned with global
needs.

BSN records approximately 5,940 product types in Indonesia, but only
around 18.5% or 1,099 products have implemented the Indonesian National
Standard (SNI).

Of these, about 204 products have successfully entered export
markets, and around 50% of national standards reference international
standards, ensuring alignment with global requirements.

However, the agency noted that even standardised products still
require adjustments to meet specific target country requirements for
export success.
",
