Export oriented firms form forum to voice complaints<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): At least 17 export oriented companies agreed on
\nThursday to form a forum to help voice their concerns to the
\ngovernment following the disbandment of the National Business
\nDevelopment Council (DPUN).<\/p>\n
\"With this forum we hope we can discuss our difficulties with
\nthe number one and number two persons in the country,\" Benny
\nSutrisno, chairman of the Indonesian Textile Association (API),
\nwas quoted by Antara as saying.<\/p>\n
The forum will serve as a pressure group to get the
\ngovernment's attention on problems in the business sector, he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Benny said the forum would soon ask the government to
\nprioritize the development of labor-intensive export oriented
\ncompanies.<\/p>\n
The forum includes API, the Indonesian Footwear Association
\n(Aprisindo), the Association of Indonesian Furniture
\nManufacturers (Asmindo), the Association of Indonesian Toy
\nIndustry (Apmi), the Association of Indonesian Pepper Exporters
\n(Aeli), the Association of Indonesian Coffee Exporters (Aeki) and
\nthe Association of Electronic Manufacturers (Gabel).<\/p>\n
Indonesian Exporters' Association chairman (GPEI) Anton Supit
\nsaid the forum should meet regularly with the government.<\/p>\n
He mentioned a similar scheme in South Korea where the
\ngovernment met with exporters on a monthly basis to find out
\nabout their difficulties.<\/p>\n
\"If there is a problem that can't be solved, the president of
\nSouth Korea immediately fires the related minister. This has been
\nproven effective in increasing their exports,\" Anton said.<\/p>\n
He said the reason why Indonesia had not come out of the
\ncrisis was because of a lack of coordination, especially between
\nthe needs of the macro and the micro sector.<\/p>\n
The lack of coordination had also caused various ministers'
\npolicies to collide, Anton added. (10)<\/p>",
