Explosives need more control<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The House of Representatives' Commission I for
\ndefense and security affairs called for the establishment of an
\nindependent body to control the use of explosives.<\/p>\n
The new body, which would supervise the production,
\ndistribution, trade and documentation to do with explosive
\nmaterials throughout the country, would be expected to curb the
\nimproper use of the potentially fatal materials.<\/p>\n
The House recommended the new body on Monday following a
\nhearing with the board of directors of PT Dahana, the state
\nexplosives supplier.<\/p>\n
There have been several bombings in the country dating back to
\n2000, in large part, because of an absence of strict regulations
\nto control illegal trade and use of explosives, PT Dahana
\nPresident Director Rusbandi said.<\/p>\n
There are nine companies authorized to produce, distribute and
\ntrade explosives. They are state-owned firms PT Dahana, PT
\nPindad, PT Pupuk Kaltim, as well as private companies PT Multi
\nNitroline Kimia, PT Tridaya Esta, PT Armindo Prima, PT Trifita
\nPerkasa, PT Inti Cellulosa Utama Indonesia and PT Asa Karya.<\/p>\n
Of the nine companies, only two of them, PT Dahana and PT
\nPindad, have licenses to supply explosives for military purposes.
\nThe other companies use explosives for commercial purposes,

JAKARTA: Foreign minister Hassan Wirayuda will visit Port
\nMoresby from June 4 to June 7 for talks on border issues and
\nplans to reinstate direct flights and land transportation
\nconnecting the neighboring countries.<\/p>\n
The foreign ministry said in its release, during the Joint
\nCommission Meeting that on June 6, Hassan would hold talks with
\nPapua New Guinea prime minister Michael Somare, foreign minister
\nRabie Namaliu, defense minister Yarka Kappa, Parliament speaker
\nBill Skate and Governor General Silas Atopare.<\/p>\n
The two countries are expected to sign a memorandum of
\nunderstanding on the Cross Border Scheme on Compulsory Motor
\nVehicle Insurance.<\/p>\n
Papua New Guinea territory has also allegedly become a hide-
\nout for separatist rebels and who have been fighting for an
\nindependent state in Indonesia's easternmost province Papua.<\/p>\n
The two countries opened diplomatic ties as soon as PNG
\nclaimed its independence in 1975.<\/p>\n
Then vice president Megawati Soekarnoputri visited Port
\nMoresby in September 2000 to improve bilateral ties between the
\ntwo countries.<\/p>\n
Trade volume reached US$40.9 million in 2001 and $60.4 million
\nin 2002 (as of August).<\/p>\n
Indonesian exports to PNG mostly include cacao, rubber,
\nvehicles, electric equipment and food products, while PNG exports
