Merapi that claimed 63 lives, the office in<br>\nSleman dealing with irrigation, mining and disasters held a<br>\ndiscussion earlier this week on how to respond to future<br>\neruptions.<\/p>\n<p>Officially opened by Sleman Regent Ibnu Subiyanto, the<br>\ndiscussion included witnesses to the 1994 disaster and experts<br>\nand academics from related government and non-government<br>\ninstitutions.<\/p>\n<p>Some 75 participants participated in the discussion,<br>\nwhose objective was to evaluate past disasters, especially the<br>\n1994 eruption, in a bid to improve the management and handling of<br>\nsimilar occurrences in the future.<\/p>\n<p>\"Through this evaluation, hopefully both the government and<br>\nexperts concerned will be able to come up with the best solution<br>\nso that unnecessary fatalities can be avoided in the future if<br>\nMt.
