An international relations expert from Padjadjaran University argues that Indonesia's participation in the inaugural Board of Peace meeting in Washington DC has elevated the country's standing in global peace architecture. The expert stressed that Indonesia must uphold transparency, accountability and advocacy principles in the board, whilst also recommending upgrades to the military's peacekeeping training centre in Sentul to meet world-class standards.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia is increasingly being recognised within
the global peace architecture following its involvement in the Board of
Peace (BoP), which held its inaugural meeting in Washington DC, United
States, on 19 February, according to an international relations
expert.

“Indonesia has now become the most recognised country in global peace
architecture — a reference point for policy design and decision-making,”
said Professor of International Relations at Padjadjaran University
(UNPAD) Teuku Rezasyah when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta on
Sunday.

Rezasyah stated that President Prabowo Subianto’s attendance at the
Board of Peace meeting carried the aspirations of many developing
nations that are disappointed with the performance of the United Nations
(UN), which is seen as having failed to resolve various multidimensional
crises, including the conflict in Palestine.

However, he emphasised that Indonesia’s involvement in the BoP must
be accompanied by the principles of transparency, accountability and
advocacy.

This is considered important given that Indonesia’s involvement and
responsibilities within the BoP remain a subject of discussion in a
number of countries.

“Transparency, accountability and advocacy are principles that
Indonesia absolutely must apply within the BoP, because Indonesia’s
involvement and responsibilities in the BoP are still being debated by
many countries around the world,” he added.

Furthermore, the academic suggested that Indonesia needs to go
further in strengthening its capacity within the pillar of global peace,
including by improving the quality of training at the Indonesian Armed
Forces Peacekeeping Mission Centre in Sentul to meet global
standards.

“Indonesia needs to go further — making the Armed Forces Peacekeeping
Mission Centre in Sentul a world-class facility,” he said.

At the inaugural BoP meeting, President Prabowo firmly conveyed that
Indonesia’s decision to participate in the Trump-initiated council
reflects the consistency of Indonesia’s active stance in supporting the
creation of world peace and realising the fairest possible solution for
the Palestinian people.

President Prabowo said he had studied the 20 points proposed by
President Trump within the BoP and was confident that peace in Palestine
could be achieved.

Despite the various challenges in realising lasting peace in
Palestine, President Prabowo expressed his belief that Palestinian peace
can be achieved collectively.
",
