        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - Iran\u2019s leadership transition is assured to proceed\nsmoothly following the death of Ali Khamenei due to American and Israeli\nmissile strikes, according to academic and Middle East observer Dina\nSulaeman from Padjadjaran University.<\/p>\n<p>Iran\u2019s ideological and institutional system, which has been\noperational for four decades, has matured and possesses a layered power\nstructure, said Dina in response to questions from ANTARA regarding the\ncontinuity of the Islamic Republic of Iran\u2019s government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe experience of Imam Ruhollah Khomeini\u2019s death in 1989\ndemonstrates that transition can proceed without shaking the foundations\nof the state,\u201d said Dina in a written statement in Jakarta on Sunday,\nreferring to Iran\u2019s first Supreme Leader following the 1979\nRevolution.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the Islamic Republic of Iran does not operate as a\n\u201cpersonalistic regime\u201d dependent solely on a single figure, she\nstated.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the figure who will replace Ali Khamenei, Dina noted that\nsuch a person must be a cleric holding the title of Ayatollah, which\nrepresents the highest rank in religious scholarship in Iran.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIran has many Ayatollahs,\u201d the academic confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond the Ayatollah title, Iran\u2019s system requires integrity and\nproven leadership as additional conditions for any figure nominated as\nSupreme Leader, she explained.<\/p>\n<p>Dina further noted that during the vacancy of the Supreme Leader\nposition, the Assembly of Experts, comprising religious scholars and\nclerics from across Iran\u2019s provinces, will convene to select a new\nSupreme Leader.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday morning (28 February) local time, the United States and\nthe Zionist entity of Israel launched a series of attacks on Iran,\nincluding the capital Tehran, resulting in infrastructure damage and\ncivilian casualties.<\/p>\n<p>Iran subsequently launched retaliatory missile strikes against\nIsraeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, Iran\u2019s national television confirmed that Supreme Leader\nAli Khamenei had died as a result of the US-Israeli missile strikes.<\/p>\n<p>On the same day, Iran\u2019s Supreme National Security Council Secretary\nAli Larijani assured that the Assembly of Experts would convene shortly\nand begin the process of selecting a new Supreme Leader for Iran to\nreplace the fallen Ali Khamenei.<\/p>",
