        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - Moch Faisal Karim, an International Relations\nacademic at the Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII),\nbelieves the Indonesian Government can act as an initiator regarding\nenvironmental issues within the BRICS cooperation forum.<\/p>\n<p>He is optimistic that Indonesia can serve as a bridge between the\nmember nations of the international organisation, given its established\ntrack record as a \u2018bridge builder\u2019 within ASEAN.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is one thing everyone agrees on, which is the environmental\nissue, the issue of climate change. Here, we must be able to find common\nground, and from there, we can move forward together,\u201d said Moch Faisal\nKarim when contacted by ANT_ARA from Jakarta on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>He assessed that consolidating BRICS members on economic or political\nissues would be more difficult for Indonesia because each country has\nits own specific interests, unlike climate change issues, which have a\nwidespread impact on all countries worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>He also urged the Indonesian Government to be more proactive in\nvoicing its views within the forum, even though Indonesia is not a\nfounding member and only joined at the beginning of January 2025.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndonesia is accustomed to creating something; we act as initiators.\nWe hold a position as a \u2018norm entrepreneur\u2019 (a party that introduces\nvarious new ideas and values into the international system for adoption\nby member states),\u201d said Faisal.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond environmental issues, Indonesia could also initiate the\nformation of a formal structure within BRICS.<\/p>\n<p>Hikmahanto Juwana, a Professor of International Law at the University\nof Indonesia, stated that, to date, the cooperation forum lacks a\nfounding charter, articles of association, or a central secretariat.<\/p>\n<p>He encouraged the Indonesian Government to take the initiative in\npreparing a draft of the articles of association, which could make BRICS\ncooperation more comprehensive and effective.<\/p>\n<p>The 18th BRICS Summit is scheduled to take place in New Delhi, India,\non 12-13 September 2026. This year, the international cooperation forum\ncarries the theme \u201cBuilding for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and\nSustainability\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia officially joined BRICS as a member on 6 January 2025.<\/p>",
