Expats the holy cow<\/p>\n
A lot of debate concerning expatriates has recently been
\npublished in the press. Certain myths and fallacies prevail in
\nthese discussions and various facts have been overlooked. I would
\nlike to rectify this situation.<\/p>\n
Approximately US$900,000,000 in tax revenue is collected from
\nexpatriates, against emoluments estimated to be $3 billion.<\/p>\n
Expatriates are not employed by charitable institutions, but
\nby commercial companies which demand a performance related to
\nthe costs incurred. Employing an expatriate is considered by
\ncompanies to be an investment. An expected return on the
\ninvestment is calculated before an individual is hired. Even
\nafter a contract is offered, an expatriate is only retained in
\nemployment so long as the position remains cost effective.<\/p>\n
Most expatriates who have worked for long periods in Indonesia
\nlove this beautiful country and its people. Many would like to
\nmake it their permanent home. These people can certainly
\ncontribute to the prosperity of this nation. Furthermore, all
\ntheir assets will remain within the four walls of this country.<\/p>\n
