EXIM backs Indian project<\/p>\n
WASHINGTON (AFP): The U.S. Export-Import Bank has approved a
\n19 million-dollar loan guarantee to support the sale of
\ngenerators for a \"clean coal\" power plant in India, the bank
\nannounced here Monday.<\/p>\n
The gas and steam turbine generators will be supplied by
\nGeneral Electric Company for a 60-megawatt plant in the western
\nIndian state of Gujarat.<\/p>\n
Through a coal gasification process, the plant will produce a
\nclean gas from local lignite coal that will then be burned in the
\nturnine to make electricity.<\/p>\n
The bank described the procedure as \"environmentally
\nbeneficial\" and said the plant would be the first facility to use
\nsuch technology in a developing country.<\/p>\n
\"Half the world's power plants use coal,\" said GE manager of
\nmarket development Douglas Todd.<\/p>\n
The Ex-Im Bank is a government agency that helps finance and
\npromote the sale of U.S. goods and services overseas.<\/p>",
