Exhibit explores developments in esthetics<\/p>\n

Traveling along the new stretch of toll road connecting the
\ncapital to its sister city, Bandung, a panorama of rolling hills,
\ncassava plantations and small kampong nestled in green valleys
\nunfolded before the eyes, set against muted peaks beyond the haze
\n-- an apt path to take for a visit to Badung di Bandung, an
\nexhibition of contemporary artist group 12 pas being held at The
\nPeak Resort Dining until Nov. 28.<\/p>\n
While road construction is nothing to marvel over in itself,
\nthis particular execution of civil engineering indicates a
\ndifferent development: the inclusion of esthetic sensitivity in
\nits design.<\/p>\n
Aesthetic value in composition is also the binding element
\namong the various pieces featured in Badung di Bandung, or
\nNaughty in Bandung, which range from the more traditional ink,
\nwatercolor, acrylic and oil paints, to graphic arts and digital
\npainting.<\/p>\n
\"I wanted to introduce the lesser-known but highly talented
\nartists who are making a mark on Indonesia's arts scene outside
\nthe mainstream,\" said The Peak chairman Eddy Sugiri, who trained
\nin architectural design at a German institute.<\/p>\n
Standing about 1,240 meters above sea-level atop a hill, The
\nPeak itself, designed by Eddy, is a composition in aesthetics.<\/p>\n
Combining organic and inorganic materials against the natural
\nlandscape of Parongpong, just outside the city, the venue
\ncomplements the work of 12 pas, which has a mission to contribute
\nto the country's arts development and to raise public
\nappreciation for the arts.<\/p>\n
The 12 members of the group all come from artistic
\nprofessions, such as architecture, graphic design, product design
\nand animation, and their combined experiences make for an exhibit
\nthat offers both introspection and social commentary, classical
\nand contemporary technique, esthetic elements of both fine and
\ncommercial arts, as well as themes that range from the natural to
\nthe physical, and from the abstract to the metaphysical.<\/p>\n
Badung di Bandung, with its play on words and tongue-in-cheek
\nself-representation, is a panoramic view on not only the
\npotential, but also of the explosive development in esthetic
\ncomposition and interpretation among \"indie\" contemporary
\nartists.<\/p>\n
