Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Yassierli
attended a working meeting with Commission IX of the House of
Representatives (DPR RI) to discuss the internship programme and various
labour issues. In the meeting, the DPR summoned the Minister to seek
explanations and the government’s policy direction regarding the
sustainability of the national internship programme.

In the forum, Yassierli revealed that his side has proposed a
significant increase in the number of internship programme participants
for 2026, from 100,000 to 150,000 people. This proposal is driven by
high public interest and positive responses from the business world.

“So based on the evaluation that we haven’t conducted comprehensively
yet, but it’s still ongoing actually. We see extraordinary enthusiasm
from participants, then appreciation from companies, we have proposed
the 2026 internship programme, we propose increasing the number to
150,000 people. But Madam Chair (Commission IX DPR RI), this is just a
proposal,” said Yassierli during the working meeting at the
Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, on Thursday (9/4/2026).

He emphasised that the proposal is currently awaiting approval and
budget support from the government. The letter submitting the internship
programme has been sent to President Prabowo Subianto and is now in the
process of inter-ministerial discussion.

“The letter has been submitted to Mr President and we are still
waiting for budget availability, and hopefully with support from the
Ministry of Finance, as well as from the Coordinating Ministry for
Economic Affairs,” he stated.

“Then this programme can be implemented, so the hope from the
internship participants that this internship programme can continue this
year can indeed be realised,” he added.

The internship programme itself is one of the government’s
instruments in improving workforce skills while bridging industry needs
with job seekers.

With the plan to increase the quota to 150,000 participants, the
government hopes this programme can expand access to job training while
curbing unemployment rates.
",
