        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - Unused electronic waste is often kept at home\nbecause people are unsure where to dispose of it. Now, small electronic\ndevices such as old mobile phones, chargers, cables, earphones, and\npower banks can be deposited through the ByeByeBox programme and\nexchanged for bonus internet data.<\/p>\n<p>The programme is presented by XLSmart in collaboration with Remind,\nthe Metallurgy Student Association of the Bandung Institute of\nTechnology (ITB), ITB, GSMA, and Bappenas. For the initial phase,\nByeByeBox will be available within the ITB campus from 14 to 28\nSeptember 2026.<\/p>\n<p>What is ByeByeBox?<\/p>\n<p>ByeByeBox is an electronic waste (e-waste) collection machine that\nutilises a reverse vending machine concept. The submitted electronic\ndevices are scanned and validated using cameras and artificial\nintelligence technology, then automatically weighed and recorded in the\nRemind system.<\/p>\n<p>The programme provides incentives in the form of internet data to XL,\nAXIS, and Smartfren customers based on the weight of the electronic\nwaste collected.<\/p>\n<p>In its initial stage, the programme targets the collection of\napproximately 600 kilograms of electronic waste. The collected waste\nwill then undergo material recovery processes so that parts that still\nhold value can be reintegrated into the circular economy cycle.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the public can bring a variety of small, unused electronic\ndevices, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><p>Old mobile phones<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Chargers<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Cables<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Earphones<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Power banks<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Other small electronic devices accepted by the machine.<\/p><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The types of devices accepted follow the specific regulations of the\nByeByeBox machines available at the programme locations.<\/p>\n<p>Amount of data received<\/p>\n<p>The bonus data is determined by the weight of the electronic waste\ninserted into the ByeByeBox:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><p>E-waste weighing under 1 kilogram receives a 500 MB\nbonus.<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>For weights between 1 and 2 kilograms, users receive 1\nGB.<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>E-waste weighing more than 2 kilograms receives 1.5 GB.<\/p><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These bonuses are main data packages and are valid for one day. The\nprogramme is intended for XL, AXIS, and Smartfren users.<\/p>\n<p>Those wishing to participate in the programme can follow several\nsteps:<\/p>\n<ol type=\"1\">\n<li><p>Prepare electronic waste: Bring small, unused electronic devices\nsuch as old phones, chargers, cables, earphones, or power banks to the\nByeByeBox location.<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Visit the ByeByeBox machine: In the initial phase, machines are\navailable at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) area. The\nactivation period runs from 14 to 28 September 2026.<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Enter data or scan a code: Users can enter the required data or\nscan a code if they are already using the Remind Go\napplication.<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Photograph the electronic items: Users are required to take a\nphoto with the electronic devices being submitted as part of the\nverification process.<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Insert the device: Place the device into the ByeByeBox. Therefore, participants should check the latest terms\napplicable at the location before proceeding with an exchange.<\/p>\n<p>Electronic waste is not the same as ordinary household waste.\nElectronic devices contain various materials that require specialised\nhandling to be processed responsibly. Through ByeByeBox, unused devices\nare collected and recorded before being processed for material recovery.\nMaterials that still possess value can be returned to the utilisation\ncycle, thereby supporting circular economy principles.<\/p>\n<p>The programme also combines waste management with digital incentives.\nThe public not only has a place to surrender unused electronic devices\nbut also receives bonus data based on the weight of the e-waste\ncollected.<\/p>\n<p>The programme runs until 28 September 2026. For the initial stage,\nByeByeBox can be utilised within the ITB environment from 14 to 28\nSeptember 2026.
