Tyasno Sudarto recently stated that<br>\nthe Indonesian Military (TNI) would oppose any side attempting to<br>\nunconstitutionally topple the government.<\/p>\n<p>It promptly drew reactions. One political expert said, amid<br>\nthe heated debate on the enmity between People's Consultative<br>\nAssembly Speaker Amien Rais and President Abdurrahman Wahid, that<br>\nwhatever Tyasno meant by his statement the public would interpret<br>\nit as the military would stop any attempt by Amien Rais to<br>\nreplace the President.<\/p>\n<p>Well, well. Is the statement not exaggerated? If Amien Rais<br>\nwith his People's Consultative Assembly were to dismiss Gus Dur<br>\nfrom the presidency, it would be constitutional. It would not be<br>\npossible for the military to stop the dismissal, because it would<br>\nbe constitutional.<\/p>\n<p>Clearly there is only one interpretation for Tyasno's<br>\nstatement.
