On March 17, 1995, I booked four Parahiangan Train tickets
\n(executive class) for Bandung, West Java. The ticket cost Rp
\n23,000 plus Rp 1500 for a booking fee and was to be used on
\nSunday, March 19 for the 5.30 p.m. train from Gambir, Jakarta.<\/p>\n
With the tickets bought, I was sure that our seats would be
\nconfirmed. This was not the case and we were very disappointed.<\/p>\n
First, we were told that only three of us could sit in
\nexecutive class, while one of us had to move to business class,
\nwhich costs only Rp 12,000. They explained that the number of the
\nexecutive coaches were reduced for that train ride.<\/p>\n
Second, one of us had to move to business class (no seat
\nguarantee) and the surcharge was not refunded.<\/p>\n
Third, since he couldn't get a seat in business class he
\noccupied a vacant seat thinking that if the owner of the seat
\ncame he would have to stand in the aisle for the journey to
\nBandung.<\/p>\n
My question is, are the passengers entitled to seats if they
\nbook tickets in advance? I think they are. I am concerned over
\nthe way the railway company services the public, particularly
\nconcerning the right of every customer to fair treatment.<\/p>\n
I sincerely hope the Director General of Land Transport will
\ngive due consideration to this matter, especially in this era
\nopenness.<\/p>\n
