        "content": "<p>A special coordination group formed to monitor the economic effects\nof the Iran-US and Israel war held its first meeting yesterday, Monday\n(13 April 2026). Following the meeting, the group comprising leaders\nfrom the International Energy Agency, International Monetary Fund, and\nWorld Bank Group stated that the war\u2019s impact is enormous, global in\nscale, and highly uneven, with disproportionately severe effects on\nenergy-importing countries, especially low-income ones. \u201cThis shock has\ncaused rises in oil, gas, and fertiliser prices, also sparking concerns\nover food security and job losses. Several Middle Eastern oil and gas\nproducers have experienced drastic declines in export revenues,\u201d quoted\nfrom the joint statement by the international institutions on Tuesday\n(14 April 2026). They consider the situation caused by the war in the\nMiddle East to remain highly uncertain, and shipments through the Strait\nof Hormuz have yet to return to normal. Even after regular shipments\nthrough the strait resume normally, they assess that it will take time\nfor global supplies of key commodities to approach pre-conflict\nlevels\u2014and fuel and fertiliser prices are likely to remain high for a\nconsiderable period due to infrastructure damage. \u201cSupply disruptions\nare expected to cause shortages of key raw materials affecting the\nenergy, food, and other industrial sectors,\u201d emphasised the leaders of\nthe three international institutions. They stressed that the war has\nalso caused forced population displacements, affecting employment, and\nreducing travel and tourism activities, whose recovery is likely to take\ntime. \u201cToday, we shared our latest assessments ahead of the release on\nTuesday, 14 April, namely the IEA\u2019s monthly Oil Market Report and the\nIMF\u2019s World Economic Outlook. We also discussed the situation of the\ncountries most affected by this shock and our respective institutions\u2019\nresponses,\u201d they said.
