        "content": "<p>Istanbul (ANTARA) - European Commission President Ursula von der\nLeyen emphasised the need to reduce energy demand as part of efforts to\naddress the ongoing crisis, alongside rising prices amid Middle East\ntensions.<\/p>\n<p>Referring to the EU\u2019s increased bills for fossil fuel imports, which\nhave risen to more than \u20ac22 billion (Rp445 trillion) in the last 44\ndays, von der Leyen outlined a series of measures targeting energy\ndemand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe cheapest energy is the energy not used. We must reduce demand\nwhile fully respecting consumers\u2019 free choices. So, we are considering\nenergy efficiency levels, such as building renovations or updating\nequipment in industrial operations,\u201d she said, emphasising the need to\nfind ways to lower energy demand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we are seeing in the Middle East is not a distant crisis, but\nin a world where everything is connected, the impact is direct and\nimmediately felt,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>She also warned that the bloc is paying a very high price for its\nexcessive dependence on fossil fuels.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe grim reality for our continent is that fossil fuel energy will\nremain the most expensive choice in the coming years,\u201d von der Leyen\nstated.<\/p>\n<p>She also noted that their decarbonisation strategy has been confirmed\nin recent years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal is very clear.
