Eurico's trial adjourned<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The trial of former East Timor militia leader
\nEurico Guterres was adjourned on Thursday after two high ranking
\npolice witnesses failed to appear in the North Jakarta District
\nCourt.<\/p>\n
Former East Nusa Tenggara police chief Brig. Gen. John Lalo,
\nwho is an expert staff at the National Police headquarters, and
\nMaj. Gen. A. Sutiyono, assistant chief for operations at the
\nheadquarters, were expected to clarify a point over charges that
\nEurico had instigated his men to reclaim their weapons at a local
\npolice office in East Nusa Tenggara.<\/p>\n
Presiding judge Suwardi decided to resume the hearing next
\nTuesday.<\/p>\n
Eurico's lawyer Suhardi Somomoelyono said that the two
\nwitnesses were with his client at the office of the Belu
\ndetective police's chief during the incident, which took place
\nafter a ceremony of the arms handover at the headquarters
\npresided over by Vice President Megawati Soekarnoputri last year.<\/p>\n
Earlier in the hearing, the court granted the request of the
\ndefendant, who is under house arrest, to move from his rented
\nhouse in Cipayung, East Jakarta, to another house in Jagakarsa,
\nSouth Jakarta, where he would live with his wife and three
