        "content": "<p>Euphoria of provincial status<\/p>\n<p>DENPASAR, Bali: A kind of euphoria has erupted among people<br>\nwho are demanding provincial status for their areas but they have<br>\nnot considered certain criteria required by the law, Minister of<br>\nHome Affairs and Regional Autonomy Soerjadi Sudirdja said.<\/p>\n<p>\"They are just in euphoria. The law actually not only<br>\nregulates the enlargement of territory but also their unification<br>\nand termination,\" said Soerjadi after inaugurating the 10th<br>\nInternational Seminar on Land Readjustment and Urban Development<br>\nhere.<\/p>\n<p>He said that before a new province could be established,<br>\ncertain requirements regarding territory, population and social<br>\nand economic potentials needed to be met.<\/p>\n<p>He said that to become a province, the idea had to have been<br>\napproved by the mother province in more ways than just popular<br>\nsupport.<\/p>\n<p>\"The planned establishment of the Riau province was rejected<br>\nby the Riau governor and council, although it was supported by<br>\nthe people,\" he said.
