        "content": "<p>EU plans 1.5m euros in aid for RI small projects<\/p>\n<p>Wahyoe Boediwardhana, The Jakarta Post, Denpasar, Bali<\/p>\n<p>The European Union plans to allocate some 1.5 million euros<br>\n(about US$1.24 million) in financial assistance to support<br>\nvarious social and economic projects in Indonesia, a senior<br>\nEuropean Commission official said on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The financial assistance is part of the EU's three-year Small<br>\nProject Facility (SPF) program, which was first launched in 2003.<br>\nThe program is aimed at promoting economic co-operation between<br>\nthe EU and Indonesia, and support the ongoing reform process in<br>\nthe Indonesian economy and system of governance.<\/p>\n<p>EU officials in charge of the SPF project on Friday briefed<br>\nlocal tourism entrepreneurs, non-governmental organizations, and<br>\nlocal bureaucrats about the program.<\/p>\n<p>\"Proposals should be submitted no later than 60 days after<br>\nthis meeting in order to provide us with sufficient time to<br>\nconduct the review and selection process,\" SPF project manager<br>\nCecile Leroy said.<\/p>\n<p>Approved proposals would be entitled to financial assistance<br>\nranging to between 50,000 euros to 250,000 euros.<\/p>\n<p>The EU has pledged to allocate a total 6 million euros to the<br>\nthree-year SPF program.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the EU spent 1.7 million euros on financing twelve<br>\ndifferent projects across the country.<\/p>\n<p>In Bali, two successful recipients of grants were the Yayasan<br>\nBumi Kita foundation and the Desa Pekraman (customary village)<br>\nDelod Yeh in Sidemen, Karangasem.<\/p>\n<p>Yayasan Bumi Kita was awarded an 81,400-euro funding facility<br>\nfor its project on the promotion of sustainable nature and<br>\ncommunity-based tourism involving small and medium enterprises.<br>\nMeanwhile, Desa Pekraman Delod Yeh was awarded 90,217 euros for<br>\nits project involving dairy cow breeding and a milk production<br>\ntraining center.<\/p>",
