EU plans 1.5m euros in aid for RI small projects<\/p>\n

The European Union plans to allocate some 1.5 million euros
\n(about US$1.24 million) in financial assistance to support
\nvarious social and economic projects in Indonesia, a senior
\nEuropean Commission official said on Friday.<\/p>\n
The financial assistance is part of the EU's three-year Small
\nProject Facility (SPF) program, which was first launched in 2003.
\nThe program is aimed at promoting economic co-operation between
\nthe EU and Indonesia, and support the ongoing reform process in
\nthe Indonesian economy and system of governance.<\/p>\n
EU officials in charge of the SPF project on Friday briefed
\nlocal tourism entrepreneurs, non-governmental organizations, and
\nlocal bureaucrats about the program.<\/p>\n
\"Proposals should be submitted no later than 60 days after
\nthis meeting in order to provide us with sufficient time to
\nconduct the review and selection process,\" SPF project manager
\nCecile Leroy said.<\/p>\n
Approved proposals would be entitled to financial assistance
\nranging to between 50,000 euros to 250,000 euros.<\/p>\n
The EU has pledged to allocate a total 6 million euros to the
\nthree-year SPF program.<\/p>\n
Last year, the EU spent 1.7 million euros on financing twelve
\ndifferent projects across the country.<\/p>\n
In Bali, two successful recipients of grants were the Yayasan
\nBumi Kita foundation and the Desa Pekraman (customary village)
\nDelod Yeh in Sidemen, Karangasem.<\/p>\n
Yayasan Bumi Kita was awarded an 81,400-euro funding facility
\nfor its project on the promotion of sustainable nature and
\ncommunity-based tourism involving small and medium enterprises.
\nMeanwhile, Desa Pekraman Delod Yeh was awarded 90,217 euros for
\nits project involving dairy cow breeding and a milk production
\ntraining center.<\/p>",
