Estrada plans Cabinet revamp<\/p>\n
MANILA (Reuters): Philippine President Joseph Estrada said on
\nWednesday he had asked his ministers and top advisers to submit
\n"courtesy resignations" to clear the way for a government shake-
\nup.<\/p>\n
Estrada gave the strongest signal yet of his plans to drop
\nsome of his advisers in the face of growing criticism from media
\nand opposition groups of supposed government indecisiveness.<\/p>\n
Local media have reported turf wars among some of Estrada's
\nadvisers, including one between a minister and his deputy which
\nprompted Estrada to intervene and patch up the quarrel.<\/p>\n
Recently, Estrada dropped two advisers holding non-cabinet
\nranks, one for alleged impropriety and the other for supposedly
\npassing bad cheques before he joined the government.<\/p>\n
Former president Fidel Ramos, Estrada's predecessor, has also
\nsaid the slow pace of reforms and the indecisiveness of the
\nEstrada administration were hurting the country's image among
\nforeign investors.<\/p>",
