The South Jakarta Administration plans to construct a pedestrian\nbridge (JPO) over the Pesanggan River, the current location of \u2018eretan\u2019\nor \u2018getek\u2019 (small ferry) crossings. Tatang, a 27-year-old ferry\noperator, hopes that the bridge will be built in a different location\nfrom the existing crossing point.<\/p>\n
Observations at the site on Thursday (3\/9\/2026) showed the ferry\noperating as usual, located directly opposite MTsN 13 Jakarta. Several\nchildren and local residents were seen using the stairs alongside the\nriver to access the ferry, with some paying a small fee and others\nsimply offering thanks.<\/p>\n
Tatang expressed his hope that the bridge would not be built directly\nin front of MTsN 13. His aim is to ensure that residents can continue\ntheir daily activities without disruption. \u201cIf possible, please do not\nbuild it here first, Brother. Build it above or elsewhere. Because if it\nis built directly here, this service will certainly have to stop,\u201d\nTatang said when met at the location.<\/p>\n
\u201cHow would residents carry out their activities? It would be a pity.\nBut if it is built above or below, this can continue to operate. Once\nthe bridge is finished, there will already be bridge access,\u201d he\nadded.<\/p>\n
Tatang admitted he is worried that the construction of the pedestrian\nbridge might lead to the termination of his ferry operations. However,\nhe stated he would be resigned to withdrawing the ferry if the City\nGovernment guarantees him new employment. \u201cMy hope is that if it\nhappens, I will be employed or compensated, because this is a business.\nWe have invested a lot of capital. The remains of the previous boats\nwere even dismantled to serve as spares in case of damage,\u201d he\nexplained.<\/p>\n
Tatang also noted that local residents do not object to the ferry\ncontinuing to operate, though he is prepared to follow regulations if he\nis prohibited from continuing. \u201cThe residents haven\u2019t forbidden it. They\nsay, \u2018Just keep going.\u2019 We will just follow the flow; if told to stop,\nwe stop; if told to continue, we continue. But if you ask what I want, I\nwant it to continue,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Previously, the Mayor of South Jakarta Administration, Syafrin\nLiputo, inspected the ferry and flood-prone residential areas along the\nPesanggrahan River in Ulujami, Pesanggrahan. This inspection was a\nresponse to community complaints regarding flood risks and the lack of\nadequate transportation facilities for crossing the river, which\ncurrently relies solely on small ferries.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo that end, the South Jakarta Administration plans to undertake\ninfrastructure development in the form of a pedestrian bridge by the\nSouth Jakarta Road Works Sub-Department,\u201d Syafrin stated in a briefing\non Sunday (30\/8).<\/p>\n
According to him, the construction of the pedestrian bridge to\nconnect Ulujami and North Kebayoran Lama will provide safety and comfort\nfor residents crossing the river.
