Eradicating corruption<\/p>\n
As an Indonesian scholar I am pleased to read Indonesia:
\nUprooting graft published in the Economist, April 30, 2005, page
\n26, by correctly posing the question: \"Is President Susilo
\nBambang Yudhoyono at last getting serious about tackling
\ncorruption?\"<\/p>\n
Unfortunately the government of Indonesia does not have a
\nstrategy to eradicate corruption. And above all, the government
\nis unable to distinguish between \"corruption due to need\" and
\n\"corruption due to greed\".<\/p>\n
Can you imagine, President Susilo promised during the
\npresidential election that he himself would lead the fight
\nagainst corruption in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
How naive! Indonesia follows the \"corporate democracy\", where
\neconomic activities are led the Vice President, who has a
\ncorporate and trade background and so the senior minister of
\neconomics.<\/p>\n
The corporate democracy tells us that the corporate greed is
\nvery obvious principle of life like in the United States:
\nCorporate interests and religious interests are the main theme
\nof the U.S. democracy, as proven by the daily CEO and CFO
\nscandals.<\/p>\n
President Susilo should first straighten up the \"corruption
\ndue to need\", through a national price policy, to address all the
\nimbalances between the installed capacity and the rate of
\nutilization through price adjustments.<\/p>\n
While to eradicate \"corruption due to greed\" in Indonesia: In
\naddition to creating socio-cultural-economic democracy, the
\npolitical democracy should be guided by the local ancient wisdom
\nof musyawarah dan mufakat (deliberations and consensus), not as
\nis practiced today: Procedural democracy by voting through money
\npolitics.<\/p>\n
