Indonesia's Environmental Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq conducted a waste management inspection at Kertonegoro Terminal in Ngawi, East Java, as part of the Low-Waste Eid Exodus campaign for Lebaran 2026. The minister found that whilst the terminal has implemented waste sorting, efforts remain insufficient, and most terminals across Java lack mandatory environmental documentation. The ministry plans to provide direct support to help terminals and stations obtain necessary environmental permits.

Ngawi — Indonesia’s Environmental Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq
conducted a waste management monitoring visit at Kertonegoro Terminal in
Ngawi District, East Java, as part of the Low-Waste Eid Exodus campaign
for Lebaran 2026.

During his visit, the Environmental Minister directly observed the
waste sorting process conducted at Kertonegoro Terminal Ngawi. The
activity aimed to assess the implementation of waste management,
particularly the separation of organic and inorganic waste to enable
recycling and reuse.

“Our monitoring today shows that Ngawi Terminal is indeed conducting
waste processing, but it still needs further improvement as it is not
yet optimal,” said Minister Hanif Faisol in Ngawi on Sunday.

Beyond the need to strengthen waste management, Kertonegoro Terminal
Ngawi also lacks the environmental documentation that is mandatory for
businesses.

“This environmental documentation issue is not only in Ngawi. I
believe most terminals and stations across Java still lack these
documents,” he said.

“We will provide direct support from the Environmental Ministry
alongside relevant provincial agencies so that all stations and
terminals without documentation can promptly complete their
requirements,” said Hanif.

During his visit to Ngawi Terminal, the Environmental Minister also
distributed reusable tumblers to visitors. These water containers are
intended to reduce waste production, particularly from disposable
plastic water bottles, which have been a significant source of
waste.

The Environmental Minister has been actively promoting the Low-Waste
Eid Exodus campaign ahead of the 2026 Lebaran exodus by monitoring
critical points along the Trans-Java Toll Road and transport facilities
such as terminals and stations. The programme aims to reduce the waste
burden at rest areas, terminals, stations, and tourist destinations,
which are predicted to generate increased waste during the Eid holiday
transport season.
",
