Bekasi councillor Hasnul Kholid Pasaribu has pointed out that
\nMega Bekasi Hypermarket, Metropolitan Mall, Ramayana Bekasi Plaza
\nand Hero Plaza occupy water catchments.<\/p>\n
The councillor's statement is true and has become common
\nknowledge. In fact, the buildings along Kali Malang riverbank,
\nlike Metropolitan Mall, Hotel Horison and shopping centers as far
\nas housing complexes opposite Budi Asih hospital, are located in
\nareas where construction is prohibited. However, the business
\ninterests of the authorities and ex-officials of Bekasi have
\nchanged the land, reserved as open areas.<\/p>\n
When the water catchments of Bekasi have been damaged to such
\nan extent, are city councillors in a position to correct the
\nsituation? Do they have the courage to oppose money-backed power?
\nThe violation of open areas is also coupled with a breach of
\nurban space designations, the manipulation of the licensing
\nsystem and other such malpractice.<\/p>\n
So, as the City Council is aware of the deviations, will it
\nsimply allow them to proceed without hindrance, which will prompt
\nfuture generations to charge their predecessors with negligence?<\/p>\n
