Jakarta (ANTARA) \u2014 The Ministry of Environment (KLH) is preparing a\nregion-based thematic roadmap for waste management and updating\nregulations on producers\u2019 responsibility for waste reduction.<\/p>\n
Vinda Damayanti Ansjar, Deputy for Waste Management, Waste and\nHazardous and Toxic Materials (PSLB3) at KLH\/Environmental Control\nAgency (BPLH), said in a statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday that\nthe region-based thematic map is being drawn up in stages to meet the\ntarget of the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2025-2029,\nnamely achieving 100 per cent waste management by 2029.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn 2026 we will focus on strengthening governance, ending the\npractice of open dumping at landfill sites, and reactivating MRF\nfacilities. 2027 will focus on mass facility construction. It is hoped\nthat by 2028 Indonesia will progressively move towards 100 per cent\nmanaged waste, with 2029 continuing with perfecting its sustainability,\u201d\nsaid Vinda.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a hearing with Commission XII of the House of\nRepresentatives in Jakarta on Monday (7\/9), Vinda presented factual data\non current national waste management, noting that total waste generation\nreaches 144,562 tonnes per day, with a growth rate of 1.48 per cent per\nyear, in line with a population that has reached 285.4 million\npeople.<\/p>\n
In addition, of the 40,267 waste processing facilities in Indonesia \u2014\nincluding TPS3R, TPSD and waste banks \u2014 most are active, although their\noperational capacity still needs to be optimised.<\/p>\n
She also said that KLH\/BPLH is revising Minister of Environment and\nForestry Regulation Number 75 of 2018 on the Roadmap for Waste Reduction\nby Producers in order to clarify the Extended Producer Responsibility\n(EPR) scheme. The regulation is being adjusted to be more applicable for\nbusinesses.<\/p>\n
Under the plan, producers will be required to pay fees to a Producer\nResponsibility Organisation (PRO) to manage or take back packaging waste\nthey have released onto the market.<\/p>\n
She stated that this obligation also applies to importers of products\nand packaging.<\/p>\n
\u201cImporters will also be given responsibility. Importers will be\nresponsible for the products and packaging they import.
