Indonesia's Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq has announced that detailed planning for the Waste-to-Energy (WtE) project in Greater Malang will be finalised through a limited coordination meeting led by Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan. The proposed site in Pakis sub-district, East Java, was selected following a memorandum of understanding signed by local leaders and deemed technically feasible during an on-site visit. If approved, the project will process waste from Malang Regency, Malang City, and Batu City, boosting local energy production and attracting large-scale industries to the region.

Prospective location for the Waste-to-Energy (WtE) project in Greater
Malang is set in Pakis sub-district.

Malang, East Java (ANTARA) - Environment Minister Hanif Faisol
Nurofiq stated that detailed discussions on the planning and
implementation of the waste-to-energy electricity project (PSEL) for the
Greater Malang area will be determined through a limited coordination
meeting (rakortas).

In Malang Regency, East Java, on Sunday, Hanif said the prospective
site for the PSEL or Waste-to-Energy (WtE) project in Greater Malang is
located in Pakis sub-district.

“Following up on the MoU signed last night by the East Java Governor,
Mayor of Malang, Mayor of Batu, and Regent of Malang, we came to inspect
the prospective construction site for the PSEL. From a technical
perspective, we consider it feasible to propose further for discussion
in the rakortas,” Hanif said.

The results of the rakortas, which will be chaired by Coordinating
Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan, will be followed up with field
inspections by an integrated government team.

Once that process is complete, the team will conduct an in-depth
study to agree on whether the site meets the specified specifications
and characteristics.

If it complies, the Environment Minister will issue a decree on the
construction of the PSEL for Greater Malang located in Pakis
sub-district.

“Based on that letter, the Coordinating Minister for Food will
request Danantara to proceed with the procurement of goods and services
or tendering,” he said.

The supply of raw materials for the Greater Malang PSEL will rely on
waste distribution from Malang Regency, Malang City, and Batu City.

Meanwhile, Malang Regent M Sanusi said Pakis sub-district is a
strategic location because it is close to Malang City and Batu City,
facilitating waste distribution to the PSEL.

Additionally, the area has the Pakis Toll Road, which further
enhances accessibility to the waste processing facility.

“(Realisation) awaits the tender. There are many factors to consider,
such as sufficient water supply and the environment,” Sanusi said.

Sanusi hopes the PSEL project in Pakis can be realised, providing
positive impacts on development and economic growth in Malang
Regency.

“Malang Regency will become an energy hub because we already have
(the) Karangkates and Selorejo (Dams), and with this (PSEL), large-scale
industries will increasingly enter,” he said.
",
