Jakarta's provincial government is still preparing its proposal for waste-to-energy (PSEL) facilities, with the Environment Minister noting that required documents remain incomplete and the city has yet to secure land for the project. Three PSEL plants are planned for the capital — two in Bantargebang and one in Sunter, North Jakarta — as authorities treat the city's waste crisis as an emergency requiring urgent implementation.

Jakarta (ANTARA) — Environment Minister and Head of the Environmental
Control Agency (BPLH) Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said the DKI Jakarta
Provincial Government is still in the process of submitting a proposal
for a waste-to-energy plant (PSEL) location.

“Jakarta hasn’t done so yet. Jakarta is currently submitting its
proposal, because the city does not yet have the land for it,” said
Minister Hanif after a Limited Coordination Meeting (Rakortas) at the
Coordinating Ministry for Food office in Jakarta on Monday.

Minister Hanif said his office continues to push the provincial
governments of DKI Jakarta and West Java to complete the documents
required for the PSEL construction proposals.

Both regions are included in the PSEL development targets due to
their extremely high volumes of waste generation.

Regarding the PSEL proposal from the DKI Jakarta Provincial
Government, Minister Hanif said the submitted documents are not yet
complete and the process is still ongoing.

“But the documents are not yet complete. So once the documents are
complete, we will review them, and then we will bring them to a Rakortas
meeting at the Coordinating Ministry for Food. Once approved, we will
conduct a ground check with an integrated team comprising nearly seven
ministries,” said Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq.

Specifically for the Jakarta area, the Coordinating Minister for Food
said there are plans to build PSEL facilities at three locations.

“Even though it is one city like Jakarta, there will be three PSEL
plants. Two in Bantargebang and one in North Jakarta — that makes three.
In Sunter, yes, there are three. This is proceeding because it is an
emergency, using Waste to Energy implementation,” said Coordinating
Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan.
",
