        "content": "<p>English boosts lecturers&apos; careers<\/p>\n<p>BANDAR LAMPUNG, Lampung: Lecturers at Lampung University<br>\ncannot hope for promotion unless they master the English<br>\nlanguage.<\/p>\n<p>Rector Alhusniduki Hamim has made it a rule that teachers must<br>\npass the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) to get<br>\npromotions.<\/p>\n<p>Alhusniduki was quoted by Antara as saying on Saturday that<br>\nmany lecturers questioned the policy when it was first<br>\nimplemented 10 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Now they can reap the benefit of the policy for their<br>\nindividual advancement, as well as increasing the quality of the<br>\nuniversity,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Alhusniduki said the regulation has enabled some 38 percent of<br>\nthe university&apos;s lecturers to obtain their masters and doctoral<br>\ndegrees from universities abroad.<\/p>\n<p>There are currently 198 lecturers studying abroad, 44 of which<br>\nare pursuing their doctoral degrees, he said.
